Chapter 4
An Exemplary Story
4.1.8 Creating a Francophone space within social services agencies in Sudbury
The Ministry of Community and Social Services informed the Commissioner’s Office that the Sudbury region’s comité des services sociaux en français held its third workshop to enhance the active offer of French-language services in social service agencies. The committee built on the success of its November 2010 and February 2012 leadership workshops to better equip front-line workers and raise awareness of the active offer of French-language services (FLS) among administrators of social service agencies.
- On March 6, 2013, approximately 40 Anglophone and 35 Francophone workers participated in a one-day conference organized by the comité des services sociaux en français. The goal of this initiative was to strengthen existing relationships and create a Francophone space within and among social service agencies in Sudbury.
- In January 2013, a second activity brought together approximately 25 executive directors to share strategies for success in creating Francophone spaces within and among the organizations.
The committee’s goal is to increase the active offer of FLS and strengthen the commitment of social service agencies; develop an FLS support system for front-line workers; create a “Francophone space” within agencies; and promote best practices in the active offer of FLS by front-line workers.
