Letter to the Minister Responsible for Francophone Affairs

As you know, since January 1, my role as Commissioner no longer falls under the authority of the Government of Ontario, but of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. I am honoured to be the first French Language Services Commissioner of Ontario, and it is my pleasure to have performed that function under the governance of Minister Madeleine Meilleur. Since my first appointment in 2007, I have had the opportunity to acquire a wealth of knowledge about the challenges, gaps, weaknesses and successes in delivering French-language services to the citizens of Ontario and to gain a thorough understanding of how the Office of Francophone Affairs works.

For these reasons, I wanted my first official communication as an independent officer reporting to the Legislative Assembly to be addressed to the Minister Responsible for Francophone Affairs in order to fully honour her contribution to Ontario’s Francophonie. The project to make the Commissioner independent would not have been possible without her leadership and her support among MPPs.
